Our first Yeo Farm Stud Lamb

Exciting day at Yeo Farm today, our journey to fulfilling our dream of servicing a much needed niche of breeding stud quality Australian White sheep for our bio-region took another small step.  Our scanned in lamb ewe purchase at this year’s record-breaking Tattykeel Australian White sale has really showcased what the pinnacle of this amazing breed is all about with this new ewe lamb pictured here less than one hour old.

As we are a small direct to customer retail meat farm, superior eating quality is of premiere importance so the systems of raising and processing here all look to maximise the ways this can be achieved. Tattykeel sheep studs incredible work with the genetic focus on this trait aligns so naturally with our ethos of production that we have no doubt both our live and processed products will continue to excel in all regards.

The Tattykeel (AW) sheep already have the supreme eating quality focus and great easy-care attributes we are after and believe will well suit our clientele. The attributes that are important to us include self shedding, no shearing, hair type sheep. They have strong structured black feet to best handle the soft, wetter conditions typical to the coastal / hinterland region of NSW.  Australian White Sheep are slightly more narrow in the shoulder than the rump, helping to minimize potential birthing problems. These are a well balanced breed with strong back lines, muscle carrying well down to the hock, and strong pasterns without too much angle. Essentially, a great combination of free moving natural type sheep with productive excellence.

Yeo Farm Australian White Sheep Stud is looking to build on these supreme Tattykeel Australian White Stud sheep genetics. Our core focus is selecting a line of sheep moderate in size, suited specifically to our smaller acreage demographic.  Their worm resilience, while already great, will be further selected for in our program, enabling more flexibility in flock and pasture rotation management. Finally, we aim to have and easy working temperament in our flock as low stress safe handling is a definite requirement of the minimal infrastructure systems, typical of smaller operations.
